Default cv carb problems?

My 92 superglide recently started cutting out, back firing and just stalling out completly. When it first started doing this it was only once and a while and has now gotten to the point were I can't even get to the end of my road. I thought it was my air cleaner clogged and causing it to choke itself out but I replaced it with a velocity scoop (hyper charger style) and no luck, it seemed to do better with no air cleaner at all. Could the problem be the jetting or dirt in the carb? I dont know much about carbs so any info would help.

Check the DIY and tech tip sections. Lots of info there. Good luck.

Sounds like it is TOO RICH to me. Readjust the air screw, they back out sometimes. Also check your vent lines making sure they are clear and choke for proper operation.

I'll bet it happens from idle to about 1/4 throttle, right? Could be a few things but the first thing I'd check is for intake leaks. Get a spray can of carb cleaner (brake cleaner will work as well). Spray the seal between the carb and manifold and listen for an rpm change. Do the same for the manifold to head seals. If you've got a change in RPM, you've got a leak. You can mess with the carb until the cows come home but,if you've got an intake leak, nothing will work.

If not a leak, check the accelerator pump for correct squirt. Remove the air cleaner so you can see into the carb throat. Do this with the bike OFF so you don't catch a backfire in the face or you can leave it running if your eyebrows or nosehairs are little long . There is a little nozzle just above the 2 'holes' on the lip of the carb opening. Give the throttle a good twist and watch to see if a squirt of gas shoots into the carb. If it does, good. You may also want to check the acceraltor pump diaphragm for wear.

Your bike is a 92, so it wouldn't be a big surprise if the intake seals and the accelerator pump diaphragm were both worn. Have a good look through the carb section in the DIY section of this forum for some really good info about understanding the carb on your bike.

Hope this helps a little!
