I just put a set of SE-203 cams in my 06 Ultra. (They were free, don't bitch!) They work pretty good, bike has extra power up top and sounds pretty good too!
Except for at cruise... the bike almost sounds like it is running on one cylinder..... yet if you get into it or let out of it the bike is fine. It seems to do this around 2500 rpm or so.
The only thing I can think of is that this is normal because of the cams. I also just realized that the bike was supposed to have a Stage 1 A/C... yet when we pulled it to do the cam swap, we found an original A/C.... maybe the lack of air flowing in is causing it.
Stage 1 is the first thing that needs to be addresed. You need a high flow intake and a decent exhaust. Those ASAP, then adress fuel managment (tuned) and I think you would have a nicer runnin bike for sure!
I already have fuel management. PCIII USB. I am working on the Stage 1 A/C now. I am trying to decide if I want the HD one, or a different one. Don't want to spend more than $150 for one though...
Yeah, there is power available. The exhaust is stock down pipes, and the slip ons are Screamin Chicken Street Performance II 4" w/ Cycle Shack baffles...
Something else I noticed... around 2200 RPM is seems like the bike is misfiring, but I don't think it is. If I grab the throttle, the bike responds quickly. So I am at a loss...
I do know I need to add a little fuel around 3200-2800 RPM at 0% throttle to clear some of the exhaust popping.
Also, there are times at idle, if I blip the throttle, it will pop through the intake. Dunno if it is too lean, or just the nature of the beast.
My '04 Road King used to miss and spit back through the intake before I installed a Power Commander, so I'd say it was too lean off-idle. If I was you, I'd install a low restriction air cleaner and look for a download that most closely matches your bike - or maybe even have it tuned.
