Default Wrapping and Unwrapping the exhaust

I tried to avoid asking this question by searching threads on the forum for an answer or even a picture but I haven't found anything and as stupid as this may sound here it goes.. I am possibly interested in wrapping the pipes on a bike. More for the look than protection however I'm concerned if I don't like the way it turns out am I going to have a rough time removing it? I'm just curious if is there is going to be residue left over the pipes that will be a pain in the butt to remove because the last thing I would want to do is damage anything in the cleaning process. Common sense tells me there will be but I just want to make sure it's even worth attempting to take off once its on or if i should just scrap the whole idea altogether.

It's not that the wrap won't come off, it's that it will ruin your pipes. The wrap will retain more heat, and the heat will destroy the pipe over time. Even if you only ride it once it will leave burn marks in the chrome.

Bob is exactly right, the wrap will destroy the finish of the pipe in short order. If you want to spend the money, wrap the pipe but don't run it, that will let you see what it looks like without ruining the pipe.

...not only the finish. The heat (and whatever metallurgical process is going on on there) will destroy the metal itself. Over time, the metal will begin to get hairline cracks that will eventually just break apart. The number of cracks will probably be so great that it will not be possible to weld the pipe together again even if you wanted to.

And if wrapping the pipe on a street machine makes a difference in performance, your pipes were too large in diameter to begin with.

Now you have enouigh information to make an informed decision. Your money. Your choice.

I just had my pipe repaired after it broke clear through the front header and cracked the rear. It can be done, but it sucks to deal with.

And Inconel steel pipes probably cost a fortune.
