Ive been searching on the forums about wrapping your pipes and have found tons of helpful info. But I need to stop thinking about it and just go ahead and wrap 'em. I know I will love the look but I guess im just afraid of messin up my Shortshots.
I will keep the heatshields on so it has a bigger radius, and was thinking mabey the little air gap between the pipe and heat shield just might help prevent cracking since it would allow a little more airflow around the pipe. That sounds like crazzy talk but we will see.
Any advice/encouragement to go for it, or not to go for it would be appreciated!

I was actually told the opposite. I was originally planning on wrapping mine with the shields in place but my indy told me that the space would make the wrap more brittle. I've had the wrap on my pipes for two years now and it still looks great.
I have some straight drag pipes I was thinking of putting on and wrapping (since I scratched up the chrome trying to remove bluiing when the bike was new). I'm not crazy abotu the look, but I'm either going to do that, or sandblast and partially paint. Wrapping will be easier, but the sandblast and pain may look cooler.
I've done mine a couple of times. The first lasted me a while then i wanted to repaint my pipes. Just make sure your pipes are seated correctly when you reinstall to avoid the dreaded exhaust leak!

That does make sense. Since the wrap becomes pretty fragile after it gets so hot.
the wrap is simple and i think the "damage" to the pipes is overblown, sure if they're chrome they won't be in very good shape taking the wrap off. but my pipes are fine with the wrap, it had no negative effects at all. if you plan on removing the wrap be prepared to paint the pipes.
A buddy put some wrap on the big radius's on his Night Train yesterday. I thought they would look like crap but they look real good. Added some nice contrast to the bike.
