Default newbie - exhaust pipe discoloration

I've seen products for preventing discoloration from heat on chrome pipes near the head connection. Do I need to wory about this? I just bought the bike used with 5k miles and the pipes look great. Bub Jug Huggers.

The best product is heat shields. They might blue but you won't see it.No worries!

I think the discoloration bit is an attempt to sell spray-on junk to get rid of it. My wife's little Suzuki S40 has it, and I think it looks cool - it's obviously (looking at the pipe) one HOT bike!

those pipes probably have heat shields so you dont have to worry about it.

My understanding is that a primary cause of excessive discoloration is a poorly tuned motor. I'm not sure if it's excess heat, fuel, or emissions that cause this, and I reserve the right to be wrong, but I thought I'd throw that out there for others comments...

A lean condition will also cause blueing of the pipes.

That's what I meant, a lean condition will cause overheating which causes blueing......

The extent of bluing is dependent on heat. They will all blue somewhat. Be glad that you can put on a heat shield to keep that nice clean look.
