Which head gaskets are preferable, teflon or copper? I heard that with copper head gaskets, you should anneal them prior to placement. Should this be done, and if so, what is the procedure - red hot with water quenching? Thanks, Rob

Those Cometics are the industry standard, for leak-free operation, and accurate squish dimensions.
We use nothing but those, here.

I blew a front head gasket 3.5 yrs ago from James Gaskets...Put in a set of S&S head/base gaskets with no issues...Followed the recommedations of no less than .055" squish for street use and installed them at .058" squish...Cleaned all gasket surfaces with lacquer thinner and used NO sealants......No regrets!!!
Used Cometic top-end gaskets on the Sporty with no regrets as well!!

We strive to establish .030" squish bands here, as the closer you put the piston to cylinder head, the more turbulent chamber you create, and much less detonation you'll experience, especially with todays fuel.
