They are the real deal, temp protection with synthetics range in the 300 degree range before they start to break down , where as the dino oils start at 250. Most twin cams run 230 +- so that doesn't leave much of a margin for stop and go traffic where the oil heats up even more. Call this guy up and ask him this question and let us know IF he knows even this answer.

I'd be willing to bet he rides into work on a horse, find another dealer that is up on modern practices.

Synthetics far surpass the dino oils in a number of ways. GEEZ Where's SKIP when we need him?

Most people that do not use synthetics do so because of cost only, not because they do not work.

Does this guy wear pleated pants
As I sit here in my pleated pants I would like to agree.

Syn. oil in the engine is just modern times common sense, and an air cooled engine will just work better if it is a little cooler than in the old days.

The trans. in not concerned with super slippery needs, and the idea of a heavy type fluid to "cushion" what goes on in there is a good idea.

Your dealer is not giving you a technical answer, he is just giving you his outdated opinion.

My HD got a very noticable boost in power at around 4750 miles. Don't know what happened but it sure goes better after that point.

Holy Cow!! My '04 FLSTF has about 3500 miles on it with Syn3 at the last oil change.. So I may notice even BETTER performance?
I thought it ran pretty good and that was as good as it was going to get.. because I did notice at 1000 or so miles it was breaking in nicely and got a bit smoother...

Man I need some more long trips.. SOON! [sm=shades.gif]

I run SYN3 in the engine, primary and tranny. It is what the mechanic recommended that I switch to after I believe was 3000 miles. I assume this is ok?

I run syn3 in the engine and primary, but was told by the service manager at the dealer to use Redline Shockproof Heavy in the trans. Syn was to light.

Babs,

I'm just telling you what my bike did. If yours improves around this mileage area, you will owe me $75 for psychic services, LOL! BTW, yes, you do need some long trips with that low mileage on an '04 !

Howl,

Wolf

Hehehe! I'll make sure the check is in the mail if suddenly the bike changes tone and starts floating down the road.
Yes, I agree... All the bike talk is making me want to bust a few bugs.

Man they may not be cool, but I really loved watching my windshield splat a big ole' juicy fat bug the other day, rather then me catching it in the teeth!

Although, it makes for longer riding between meals due to roadsnacks! [8D]

I would change the trans to a gear lube and get the syn 3 which is engine oil 20/50 out of there.

Hey folks,

I was the guy who was REAL nervous about my '05 Ultra running so darn hot. Went out and purchased the digital thermometer dip stick, and validated the temperature in boiling water etc... Prior to my 1000K service the bike never measured lower than 240 degrees and saw it many, MANY times up around 246. Since the synthetic, I've never seen it above 235. I don't ride any different, did have a stage 1 kit done with SE slip ons, remap and air filter. Don't know if that could account for the 10 degree difference if not it's got to be the synthetic oil.

IF your tc is running 230 than you need to take a look at you a/f ratio. I run a 124 here in phoenix and am at 12.5.1 compression ratio and no oil cooler and never run over 220 and that is in traffic. Many of the stock bikes tend to be lean in the cruise range and you will see higher oil temps. A oil cooler is a great idea, use of nikasil cylinders is worth 20-30 less oil temps. I guess maybe I am too cheap as I change oil every 1000 miles if they are city miles. I have a problem with the syn oil prices. I used to work on diesels and I think that there is a worth wheil usage for extened drain. But syn oil can be harmful as they do not remove as much heat from the head area due to there abilty to drain so fast. Engines that are used for racing such as nascar all run syn oil but they also have oil sprayers in the valve covers to aid in removing heat from valve train( springs mainly). They found that the the springs where failing due to heat issues. Being that air cooled engines can use help I think that a cooler is a better way to go and will cost less in the long run. These are just my opinions mind you. I do use syn for the trans and primary as I have found it to work better.

Poo! Sink 3 is about as poor of an oil as you get ROTFFLMAO, the Dickersons push this oil as they may have stock in the chit! now get it out of the bike especially the transmission.[sm=nono.gif][sm=nono.gif]
