Question SE Perfect Fit Pushrods ?

I'm looking at replacing my cams this winter - possibly giving the SE254E a shot as I want to avoid compression/fuel issues, and these should provide a smooth running motor. Independent of cam choice, on my last bike I took the easy route and just did the adjustable pushrods. This time, I'm looking at avoiding the adjustment route and doing the SE Perfect Fit instead. Staying with an SE cam they should fit perfectly.

It seems it's just slightly more work in pulling the top-end off, but the result is they are in and you can forget about them; not to mention they are lighter.

Any recommendations/suggestion on this path - anyone go with non-adjustable and regret it later?

Appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance!

Mark

I reused the original rods rather then the adjustable's. During the removal of the tank, rocker covers, rocker arms... I started to think how maybe the adj's were the way to go. After putting it back together and riding it, I am VERY glad I took the extra time and did not use adj's.

btw - the Merlot Street Glide is a great looking bike!

If the only modification is cams, why not use your stock pushrods? A cam only change does not change the valve train geometry.

I don't know much about the 254E but with a 43* intake close, she might be a little lazy on the bottom end. Have you considered installing the 254 advanced 4*? Static CR will be about 9.7: IIRC, the power pak option CR is 9.6? The difference is in the corrected and cranking compression which is where the TQ is. Installed straight up, the 254 corrected CR at about 8.9 and CCR at about 182psi. A little soft for my taste but may be just right for you. I would be looking at running the 254E advanced 4* which boosts the corrected CR to 9.0 and CCR to about 186.

How about the SE204 installed retarded 4*?

Just food for thought; the devil is in the details.

I did think about a 4 degree advance so appreciate the feedback on that.

Mark,

I installed the SE255 cams in my brother's '09 103 and used the stock pushrods. It runs very well and quiet.

Some used 255 cams from here and a new cam install kit with bearings from Fuel Moto and he had a pepped up motor for $175.

The 254 cams look interesting, but I have yet to see any charts on them.

Why are you glad you used the originals, and not the adjustables?
Thanks
