Default Exhaust flange?

I just installed my new V&H exhaust and have a question. How far are the flanges suppose to go onto the bolts at the head? I really can;t tell if i have them far enough on. It seems to me like I have an exhaust leak there (held a piece of paper next to it and you could see the paper blowing) but the nuts are as far as i could get them. Should the flange sit flush against the head? I do have a gap so I am wondering if they should be flush or not. Thanks in advance...

Not sure I understand your question but if you have an exhaust leak, you need to remove the nuts, flange, etc., replace the exhaust gasket and start over.

Make sure the exhaust gasket has been completely removed and that there is none of the old gasket remaining. The SS gaskets are the best.

Make sure that the exhaust flange fits properly over the spring retainer that keeps the flange centered on the pipe.

Install the pipe with the retainer and flange out of the way so you can see that the pipe fits into the exhaust port properly and then move the retainer and flange into place. Start the easiest nut and just thread it onto the stud enough to hold the flange in place. Start the other nut and tighten it the same so that the pipe is in place but the flange is not tightened down.

Move the pipe around and push it into the port; hold it there while slowly and evenly tightening up the exhaust flange nuts. When the nuts are tightened, you should have about 1/4", or thereabouts of each stud exposed past the end of the nut. You don't have to get these crazy tight; I forget what the torque spec for these nuts is but it's not much.

Ride the bike, get it hot and retighten; check them periodically, like when you change oil as they have been known to loosen up.
