2007 Harley electric glide classis, stage 1 upgrade, download from harley, rush pipes. 27,000 miles. Bike starts ok most of the time cold. Often though on the second or successive starts, it kicks back against the starter, doesn't start, and shoots out blue smoke from the air cleaner. Shop didn't find any codes, found some crud in Fuel module, replaced plugs. No visible problems in tank from ethanol. No electrical issue. THey suspect something in primary, but want me to ride it some more after the fuel module cleaning. Under Harley extended warranty. Comments, suggestions, ideas?
Do you crank it as soon as you turn the key on or do you wait until the pump finishes humming?... try right away and see if it starts any better... that is what i do and it starts better than when i wait.. I do have a power commander...
I normally wait for the engine light to go out. When I picked up the bike, the shop said after they cleaned the injectors, and the fuel filter, it still was having the same symptoms, and did in fact, do it for them. They said, the grinding noise is the kickback on the starter, but the question is what is the reason for the start-up failure? It isn't throwing any codes(yet). So I ride it home, and it still seems sluggish. I guess whatever the issue is, needs to fail. It will go in for the 30K in about 2300 miles, which with my work schedule could be a while, unless it has more issues. I sort of hope it throws a code actually!
