Even if you bump up the compression by increasing bore size, you still won't have corrected CR up in the 9.3 range. If you pul the heads for headwork, you can deck the heads (use .030" Cometic MLS head gasket) and set them up for corrected CR target > 9.0 and cranking CR >180psi, better but still not optimized.

Wait until you can do both and you can set the heads up for static at 10;1, corrected at 9.2 and cranking at 190psi without reducing chamber volume. Your heads don't need much work, BigBoyz "street" port for $299 will get the job done. Another $150 for cylinder boring and $175 (less 20% if from Zanotti's) for some cast flat top pistons, $100 for gaskets, so for about $800, assuming you do the work, your there. Yes, cast SE flat tops will work fine.

Or, take Scott's advice and do the 107".

By all means do the heads. I just wrapped up my build with SE Pro Heads and Se Flat Top 103" Jugs & Pistons, but only did the 103 because I needed a ring overhaul anyway.
I shopped for over a year b4 I found my heads at a good price and ended up paying $699 for them. Couldn't pass compared to $750 & up for head porting and big valves.

I believe in spending the time fitting the heads/squish and using cometic head gaskets to get the 0.030" ideal. You can do the same with good heads on top of your 96". Machine the bottoms of the jugs to bring the pistons up to dead flush with the top of the cylinder, then stack up the head gaskets you need to make the compression and squish you want.

Good heads and well fitted on a 96" will far and away put a bigger grin on your face compared to putting in 103" and starving it for air with stock heads.

G'luck!
