I have a 2010 Road Glide with a Woods TW6-6 cam (510 lift), D&D fat cat 2 into 1, SE deep breather and Direct Link tuner.
I am getting a clacking sound out of my air cleaner up to 2500 rpm, above 2500 it stops.
I have read that my exhaust valve is not fully closing before the power stroke begins causing that noise.
Is that caused by the cam or is it a timing issue causing that clacking sound?
I have the TW6G's in my 88" Deuce with an open element, lots of noise,,it's the cam.
I've thought it was the cam because it does have much more top end noise after installing the cam. But what has me puzzled is the clacking sound out of my a/c that stops above 2500 rpm.
I had a nasty solid .700 roller in my Chevelle and it had lots of overlap, it made a similar noise. Now with a .600 hydaulic roller with less overlap hardly any noise through the carb.
I had a similar noise that was due to 2 things, adjustable pushrods(SE Non tapered) hitting the inside of the tubes and the valve springs(different than stock) hitting the rocker boxes. Ground the boxes for clearance and put in tapered pr's. Noise gone. But this is not applicable in your situation due to you running stock pushrods and stock valve springs.

I stand corrected. I did put in adjustable push rods. I have had them adjusted once since the installation. But, I am positive it is not from the push rods hitting the inside of the tubes. Valve springs are stock. This noise comes directly out of the air cleaner.
Hey guys, just a thought. Last June I installed(my Indy) Bassani 2-1 Road Rage pipe, and an open SE air cleaner stage 1 but with the Zippers MaxFlow air filter. I got the exact same clacking sound soon as I left the Indy's shop, only at low rpm. He told me it was the throttle plate, because the filter not having covering it and everything being out and exposed. Hope this helps...

I agree, I have discovered it is the throttle plate on the FBW bikes. The sound is masked when using a stock a/c but when using a hi flow a/c the sound becomes more pronounced. Even more so when a cam is installed. The throttle plate does not open until you hit 2500-3000 rpm. When it finally opens, the clacking sound goes bye bye.
