Default Rebuilding a CV Carb Question ???

I have a Mikuni carburetor on my bike, but I'm rebuilding a CV carb (#27414-99) for a friend and I'm not all that familiar with it. I'm at the point where I want to run the carb body through the parts washer tank (filled with Gunk Carb Cleaner) but I'm worried about the two inlets (shown pictured.) I think they are aluminum but I'm not sure if they aren't plastic coated, or just painted black. Are these inlets threaded on the carb? I gently tried turning them off but I'm afraid to go at them too hard if they are fixed in place and I break one. Anyone know how to remove them? Do I have to remove them? My main concern is the solvent will hurt whatever it is they are coated with.

The fittings are brass/plastic and are pressed into the carb body. You have to destroy them to remove them; there are brass replacements. The carb doesn't look that dirty; don't think it is necessary to run it through the cleaner. A little fuel and some compressed air is all you need. Don't know if you are aware that the float adjustment for a CV carb is a little different from most float adjustments. It it's not right, fuel mileag will be affected. Find a service manual for the bike/carb and check out the float level adjustment procedure.

I have worked on many Mik's and have found the only solvent that affects those spigots would be lacquer thinners.Watch when you use air pressure in the mixture srews, some models have a small washer and O-ring in the passage.

Thanks, and just for future reference the Gunk Carb solvent didn't bother the plastic coated nipples. And yes, I found the small washer and replaced that o-ring on the mixture screw with a new one.

Bagged, tagged and ready for return for service!
