Default Is this a problem?

Howdy -

I just did a dual exhaust conversion on my '05 FLSTNI (Deluxe). The dual cross-over exhaust pipe slightly touches the ignition coil cover on the drive side of the bike. Accordingly, the cover heats up while riding. Will this lead to any problems down the road???

The rest of the exhaust looks like it fits properly (i.e. down pipe routes nicely along outer primary cover).

Thanks for your help!

Leo,

I would not want anything rubbing against the coil cover. The exhaust could cause excessive heat and do damage to the coil, plus, there could be a vibration problem that could do damage.

Regards,

Bill

I agree with Bill, you might try to loosen the flange bolts as well as the crossover and see if you can get more clearance, most times you can.

Yikes! Back to the dealer first thing in the morning tomorrow! Bill, John - thanks for your assessments! Will let you know when it's fixed.

Cheers,

Problem fixed! Now it clears the ignition coil cover but only by several mm's...at least it's not touching now. They even managed to straighten the end caps (they were slightly tilted in the same direction before).

Thanks again, and safe riding!
