I just bought a 1999 Softail Standard. I seem to be having a problem with it and was hoping I could get some help. This is my first Harley and only my 2nd bike(Had a honda 20 years ago). The bike has a stutter and sometimes a hiccup when traveling between 1000 to 1500 RPMs. It doesn't always do it but it does do it pretty consistently. The bike has Thunder headers 2 into 1 exhaust and a hypercharger. The pipes on the bike were yellowing when I bought it. i took the bike to a local shop and the guy told me it was the hypercharger and that they were all junk and was most likely the cause of the problem. Anyway he didn't fix it. I have tried doing some research on the matter and have come up with that it is running to lean or the carb needle needs to be replaced. how hard is it to richen up the fuel? I did ride with the choke part way out for a little while but still had the stutter. Any help is appreciated.BTW the guy at the shop said he did adjust something not sure what but it seems to be idling higher since around 1000 rpm.
The carb may need re jetting. If the carb is all stock, remove the epa idle circuit plug and set the needle 2.5 turns out from seated and change the pilot jet to a .45 jet. Replacing the needle with one from a 1988 sporster would also help.

Bring the air/idle out to 2 1/2 to 3 turns, and up the pilot until the issue is gone.
