Can anyone tell me what the normal operating temperature on my bike should be? I read the heat management in this forum as well as the one in my owners manual. My manual says it will drop the idle to 800 RPM at 293 degrees(forum @ 320). My bike is running at about 290-300 degree, i have no tach to check RPM. Just replace my exhaust only and dont want to run too hot.
I have an 06' Softail Standard. I have the 29 degree injectors. Just installed Screamin' Eagle Pro II pipes. No other modifications. Two pops in 2 hours worth of riding. Pipes are sooting up just fine. Synthetic Oils in all three holes.
Anyway, according to my oil tank analog dipstick guage I am running about 250 degrees in 65 degree weather.
I also would like to know what other tempratures people are getting.
I run a 2000 FXDX Superglide with V and H Shortshots, stage 1 in the carbs and an oil cooler. HD synth oil. Until last week I had one of those push a button and read your oil temp on the dipstick. never got over 243. Now it has quit working and I am lost, but wonder if I really need to replace it. I think the battery may need to be replaced, but can't find a Zerc that will fit the 4 that you hagve to remove to get at it.
Have a temp dipstick on the oil tank. )08 Fatboy. Highest oil temp I have seen was yesterday @ 215 degrees.
Was about 100F degrees yesterday. On the I-10 felt to me about 150
Highest Ive ever seen in my 95" 100hp motor was 225-230 in 90-95 degree 85-90mph highway running. Yours does seem high, better check air fuel ratio. maybe an oil cooler is in order.
got 266*F today on a 15-mi ride in 94*F weather.
I have a 2009 Road King with HD oil cooler, Rino slip-ons, HD Heavy Breather AC, Woods TW6-6 cams, MasterTune TTS and professional dyno tune.
When I bought the bike, it consistently went to 280+ in similar days.
these readings are directly from MasterTune Datamaster recording. As in, this is the temperature reported by the temp sensor. Actual temp taken with a laser thermometer reads from 240 towards bottom of cylinder, to about 300 at top of cylinder.
dunno if that's what everyone else is getting, but I hope this thread gives me a better idea.
Does anyone have a good link for oil coolers for Harley's? All I can find is 04 & later. I'm planning on moving to Texas soon & I have an 1989 FLHS but I know she won't stay running in that heat. it is 80-95 here for the past few weeks & she runs great but if I were to get stuck in traffic in 90+ I know my engine would cut out, had her sputter the other day during ohio bike week. Anyways any recommendations would be nice since everyone else seems to have much lower temps. I thought the engine topped out at 300ish but its hard to believe she gets that hot!!!!!
