Default DIY muffler removal tips

I was pulling mufflers recently and learned two things that make pulling them much easier. One is a hot pipe tip and the other is a cold bike tip.

First, I was pulling mufflers off one bike shortly after it had been run. Hot pipes are easier to pull apart. I used some good thick leather work gloves to grab them.

Next I was pulling a set off a cold bike. Once the clamps were loose I slid them out of the way and applied a couple drops of liquid wrench on the visible slit in the muffler tip (header end). After a minute or 2 they were easy to twist and wiggle off.

Both methods made it significantly easier to pull the mufflers compared to the way I did my first set. The first time I just loosened clamps and then wiggled and tried to twist, wiggled some more, tried to twist, wiggled some more, etc... Eventually they came off but it was tedious and took about 5 minutes each. Both of the above methods took less than one minute per muffler.

If everyone already knows this then I'm just bragging that I finally figured it out. If someone benefits from the tips, great.

One word for removing mufflers....Silikroil. They literally slide off instantly. Made by Kano Labs - I'd advise everyone here to buy a can. We use it at work and I use it at home.

You can work on the cold pipes and just heat the joint with a propane tourch
