Default Power Commander USB Factory Map Quality?

How close are the Factory Power Commander USB maps. I have a 2007 Fatboy and wondered if I use the same set up as the factory map they list (ie. the Vance and Hines Big Radius with SE Airfiter)... do I need to still have a custom dyno run done to tweak that map?

I am not concerned with getting the max HP out of the setup but just want to make sure I am within 90% of optimum.

I know there are a few techs on here who work on Dynojet PCIIIUSB's and wondered if they had any experience how good the factory maps from Dynojet are?

I wondered that too when I had my PCIII installed on my 07 Fatboy. The dealer said that the factory map designated for my set up will be very, very close to what it woud be if I had it Dynoed.

May go with the V&H big radius with K&N filter and use the factory map for now... then sometime later get it custom mapped.

Here is a posting I found on here while doing a search ... looks like a few more HP from getting a custom dyno map.

The pre installed maps are close for many owners mainly due to there isnt alot of upgrade choices yet. They tend to be on the rich side but not overly rich to foul plugs so to say.

Ive been told 90 -95% which is close, will not harm the bike. PCIII is easy to use.

I Installed VH Big Radius, Big Sucker, and PCIII w/ o2 eliminators of course with powercommander web MAP on an 07 Heritage.
I took it to American Cycle Performance to be Dyno Tuned (load tested/sniffed) just to make sure!
$75.00 , if it fails load testing it is $225.00 for a custom MAP.
The website MAP tested fine, A/F, ignition, all of tha good stuff. Did not need a custom MAP. Gil has tuned 1000's of PCIIIs and gave it the OK.
However the Bike would hesitate/break up when taking off. When it warmed up it would break up off zero throttle, ran great once you got going.
Tuner made a few small changes below 1500 - throttle position 0,2 i think, but the bike still did it.
Power commander recommended changing cells in TP 2,5,10 - 1500 to 3000 RPMS by 5 (up for lean/ down for rich). I went up and Bike is now perfect.
Plugs are tan.
Dont forget to zero the throttle and enable rev xtend.
You will be happy with the PCIII and provided MAP.
Big Radius Fit and Finish to me was excellent.
Recommend the chrome Big sucker from Arlen Ness, nice piece.
Good Luck

thanks for info.. exactly what I was looking to find out

I have the K&N larger filter RK-3910 kit. Heres a link to the standard rk-3909 sized filter kit. https://www.hdforums.com/fb.asp?m=230287

The standard kit and the lager kits both fit under the stock a/f cover and they give you a new ring to stick on the outside if you want. plus they give you a redesigned back plate with a tuned port for more flow. I just have always had good results from K&N and have their K&N cleaner / reoiler kit for my car and other bike K&N filters.

the larger K&N is a reusable version but its 1/2 in taller then the stock replacement K&N. should breath just fine.

We just did 3 bikes that are triplets in the build. We have 3 maps for a 98 inch it with 37 g cams that are very different from one to another. WE checked fuel psi on the bikes and we found that from lowest to highest was only 2.8 lbs. That is not getting inot other items that can effect maps/ tuning. It pays to have the bike tuned. Using a mpa that is close is ok but really they need to be tuned.

Fun stuff!
I totally agree!!
Thats why I had the bike checked 2 days after the upgrade !!!

Would you say there is a bigger difference in MAPs when you install performance kits, cams, port/flow, etc..., VS stock motor, , pipes, A/C???

I would say yes if you have CAMs and other improvements you need to have the bike mapped... but after a bit of talking and my past experience with a PCIII and sportsbikes. I would say if you are just adding an high flow Air Filter and Pipes. Using the DYNOJET factory map for that same configuration (same pipe brand) should be close enough unless your looking for MAX HP out. For me the max HP is not a big thing. My other bike is a turbo Hayabusa pulling just under 300 hp. I am looking for just a little extra pull for passing ect.

If I go with an upgrade in engine size to 110 cu and/or add CAMs then I would get the bike mapped.

I was just trying to figure if it was worth it to map just for an exhaust and airfilter upgrade. until I save enough money to do the next upgrade
