Just picked up a 2012 fltrx about a month ago and when the snow flies it will be time do some mods.
First off, I don't need a race bike that will decimate all. I just want something that has good power and that I can have a little fun with. I don't really feel the urge to dump $4,000 into a motor at this point.
I plan to do the basic stage 1 minium, still havent decided on a pipe and air cleaner yet, but believe I will go with the screamin eagle tuner.
I have been tossing around the idea of cams. When I asked the dealer about adding cams they suggested doing screamin eagle, flat top, high compression pistons as well. Saying your basically that far into the bike already with the perfect fit push roads that pistons really won't add that much more cost.
They also suggested using "perfect fit" pushrods over the "quick install" push rods. Saying they have seen a few bikes come in for quick install rods loosening up.
I have a few questions currently.
Are new pistons worth the extra coin? Will I notice the extra power from the seat? Good or bad for reliability?
Opinions on push rods? I have heard good and bad things about both.
The factory 103's are the perfect platform for a budget build. They are at a CR of 9.6:1 so going with a cam such as the HQ 500, T-Man 600, Andrews 37 and a good breather (HD Heavy Breather is excellent) and two into one exhaust such as a Supertrapp and a good tuning system will get you near the 100hp mark and anywhere from 105 to 110 torque without breaking the bank.

What cam could I go with If I was looking to stay with screamin eagle parts?
