I pulled the carb and am glad I did as the SE1 Air Cleaner rubber breather hoses were almost split due to heat and rot. (2003 FXD with 24,000 miles) Bought new hoses, dealer part, and a new intake gasket for the carb. Polished the carb a bit also!!
I installed a 50 slow jet and a 205 main and put her all back together. Turned the mixture screw to 2 1/2 turns.Started the bike and at idle she sounds much stronger. Any little movement atthe throttle sends a muchstronger response from the engine. Much different than before. Winds nicely to max. No chance to road test it yet, hopefully Saturday.
I will check the plugs after the motor cools down.
Sounds like going to the 50 slow speed jet was a good move. The 205 main might be a little harder to tell the difference without a dyno or direct WOT comparison with the 200 main. The better slow speed response will probably make it feel better all over.
Took the bike out this afternoon and she SCREAMS!!!!
Bottom end has much more pickup than before. No let up in powerband till rev limiter kicks in.Re-jetting has resulted in a super performing package that I cannot wait to re-test on a dyno. Bike has to be kicking around 82 or 83 HP now.
