i have a 1998 roadking flhrci and it runs well and no engine noises at all..when i ride the bike for awhile it seems to smoke white and i can smell burnt oil..and the bike seems to overheat too..it has 27,000miles on it..some people are telling me its a problem with the mm injections and to change it to carb, but i dont have any problems with the inject. and some r telling me it might need a valve and ring job!! i dont know what to do!!!!! i need some help before i do any job
Generally speaking, oil smoke is caused by worn rings or valve seals/valve guides. Whoever told you it's the FI isn't giving you the best advice.
If your bike smokes at start up and then the smoke diminishes as you ride, or smokes on deceleration, then that points to the valve seals/guides as the primary problem.
If it smokes while cruising and/or accelerating, then that points to the rings.
Before you have someone just arbitrairily pull it down, seek a qualified mechanic, and have them perform a leakdown test, and compression test as well.
