Hey guys, do you have to unbolt the oil pump from the cam support plate in order to remove the cam support Plate from the motor?. The Bike is a 03 ultra classic.
Thanks for the replies. Why do I need to separate it to reinstall?
Because when you reinstall the camchest components, the oil pump assy first goes onto the pinion shaft. When the camplate goes back on, you use two of those tapered bolt thingies to help align the pump housing to the camplate. You have a shop manual, right?
I have a manual, But I guess my question is - if I don't remove the oil pump from the cam support plate, shouldn't the oil pump stay aligned?. I have new O-rings for the oil pump scavenge port stub, oil feed hole and blind hole.

You can do it as long as everything stays lined up in the pump but I would still advise you to loosen it up and realign the pump.
Use the tapered threads and rotate motor by turning back wheel as you tighten... butt...don't even think about it... without upgrading to new pump and tensioners...

Very interested in this also. In that cam change video from S&S he just leaves it attached to the cam plate. That would make the job alot earsier, IMO. I couldn't post the link, but it you do a search on youtube for Harley Cam Change, its the first one that comes up.
