Default Screamin' Eagle stage one A/C or....

Goin' for the big air kit and was wondering if the adding a K and N air filter wouln't do better than the
SE Stage One A/C kit. The K and N by itself would be much cheaper than the SE for $140. I would still
have to do a remap but don't see the point of spending extra money when K and N is a great filter and
fits right as a stock replacement.... or am I missing something?

Thanks

Rob

SE has known problems to come apart. Get the K&N, used to be that's what was put in the SE, but no longer...

I just put a Ness Big Sucker on (Open back StageI - $104 from Dennis Kirk with free shipping) had the StageI download done and a set of SEII slipons. I am not sure how much more power this combo makes but the bike does seem to run very well.

I have a buddy with an 04 FXDI. The dealer gave him a CVO backing plate and which has some additional openings to suck in more air. While I don't think it will flow as well as a open back AC, I am not sure how much of a difference you would feel between the two.

Whatever you decide on do not buy the HD SE StageI witht the blue rubber molding and paper AC. The element ends up with holes in it after a few thousand miles.

They're a forum sponsor...check that link...or hit Ebay. I do most shopping on Ebay. I'm also a big fan of www.mandmcycles.com

Good luck.

The ones that come apart are the blue edged filters. Check out the kit and see if it has the reddish colored filter with the black ends, that's the K&N. Other filter kits don't make a noticable difference one over the other. The K&N that replaces the stock filter in the stock air box is an upgrade but not as good as the stage 1 kit. The stage 1 flows more air capable of 100/100
