Default Air Cleaner Opinions

Hey ya'll... This is my first post to the forum, although I have enjoyed reading through many of the threads here and picking up on as much as my alcohol-weakened brain is able to hold on to.

I have an ’08 Road King Classic; stock everything. I am looking to upgrade to my own personalized Stage 1 kit (a/c, exhaust, & tuner).
My first question is what your opinions are of the different air cleaners out there…
I am debating between an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1, SE Stage 1, and Fuel Moto SE Stage 1. Whichever I get, I will be getting a chrome backing plate.
I have heard both good and bad about the Arlen Ness. The bad being problems with the backing plate cracking. From what I gather, the Fuel Moto SE Stage 1 is basically the SE Stage 1 with a much better air filter element. So, that is enough to knock the SE Stage 1 out of it. That leaves me to decide between the Arlen Ness Big Sucker and the Fuel Moto SE Stage 1… From what I’ve found, the Fuel Moto is about $20 more than the Big Sucker.

Please share any and all opinions and experiences!

Thanks…

Welcome to the forum... I never realized how cheap the H-D Stage 1 filter was until I recently purchased one for my new 2010 SG... it is little and really looks alot more restrictive than the Zippers filter that I had on my 07... I would vote for the FuelMoto set up... that is proly what I will switch to eventually. Good luck!

Been using Ness air cleaners for years with no problems. Seems some have suffered a base plate crack but I've never had or seen one. I run my filters with no cover and no sock and have had no problems in the rain. I'm suspect of the new "no oil" type filter media since I had an SE that developed holes. Changed the oil-less SE filter over to a K&N and I use K&N exclusively no matter who makes the air cleaner.

The FUELMOTO uses the exact same backpalte as SE. They purchase from the same mfr. They also add the option to chrome or powder coat.

The filter they give with it is identical to K&N, same care and quality.

If it were me, I would spend the $15 difference and go FuelMoto.

I was faced with the same decision not 3 weeks ago. I went with fuelmoto powder coated and could not be happier with the product.

+1 I installed Bub7 slipons and then picked-up the Fuel Moto Stage 1 AC and PC-V. The backing plate was chromed and the filter is perfect (K&N style). Fast bolt-on install and runs great and looks cool (I put-on a basic chrome round cover).

I got the Fuel Moto a/c last week along with some other things. Spend the extra money for the black backing plate. I wish I would have seen that option.

Thanks everyone for the responses thus far...
Sounds like most of those who go with the SE air filter change out the filter element with a K&N or other higher quality one. Sounds pretty much like what Fuel Moto does for you. My question there would be why not just buy the Fuel Moto a/c, unless if you didn't know about it?
Sounds like a few of you are getting the black backing plate or else painting it black? Why's that? Is there a reason for not going with a chrome backing plate?

Keep the opinions/setups coming!

Thanks again…
