Hi guys,
Imhave a 98 softail custom, with Mikuni 42 carb. After a few months of non ise, I have had it out over the last few days, but it seems to have a fuelling problem. All os fine at low revs, but when the throttle is fully opened the engine dies, stops firing for a few seconds and then comes back to life. The problem is more frequent in higher gears. Also the engine seems to lack power at thentop end. Have checked plugs and filter, and it ran beautifully when I last used it a few months ago. Any suggestions very welcome as to the cause please.
This might sound crazy but my '95 was doing same thing & it turned out to be the battery. Had a dead cell, which caused the bike to "chug" like it was running ouy of fuel. When you test the battery, do a load test on it.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Imhave checked the battery, which is OK, so it looks like I will have to put some time aside and ge the carb off :-(
Cheers.......
Thanks guys! Just a quick update....Removed float drain and main jet. Dirt in the main jet. Thouough clean and all is back to its amazing normal! Thanks to all for the invaluable, help :-)
