The first five numbers, 16592 are the number for the part. The two numbers that follow are the year the part is introduced. It will fit any year following that has this same number. If there is a single letter at the end of the two numbers, it is a later version of the same part. The letter could mean a vendor change, a process change or a minor design change but the part will fit and work as the same part from earlier numbers. If there are two letters following the year, they designate a color.
So I scored a set of screamin eagle performance heads (16952-99a). I have read the recommendation for se flat top pistons yet my mechanic buddy is recommending the Keith black flat top pistons. My plan is to have the cylinders bored out, I am already running Andrews 37g cams.
Is the head gasket a given spec or should I install the head without the gasket using the clay measuring technique?
37 cams dont have enough TDC lift to get the valves close to the pistons in most applications.but the easiest way to check is to open both valves to the TDC lift (174 I,148E)and look across the gasket surface,if the head of the valve dosnt show below that, your fine
Kirby, I have been checking out your prices online for the cylinder boring and screamin eagle flat top pistons. Do I need to upgrade my cam plate to the screamin eagle part#25283-07 with adding the increased displacement?
As previously stated, I am already running the Andrews 37g cams and have the screamin eagle performance heads 16952-99a I plan to install once the cylinders are bored.

PN25283-07 is obsolete; the current part is PN25284-11; the SE "hybrid" plate that will allow early cam sets to mate up with a billet plate and hydraulic tensioners, outer roller chain and upgraded oil pump; worth the money if you have it. You will need the block off plates to block the oil supply ports for the tensioners if running gear drive cams.
Those heads (PN16952-99A), SE flat top pistons, .030" head gasket and a S&S 570G cam set will make 100/100, or very close to it every time. The 37 will run good as well but the 570 would be my choice.
