I was at at tuner shop on Saturday and the person I spoke with likes Super Trapp slip-on with internal discs. He said it helps make good power and I, the owner of the bike, can dial in the power and loudness by adding or removing discs. Ummm sounds "custom" to me. Does any body here have experience or comments? I know, I know Terry says RHINEHARTS! My only experience with Super Trapp is a bunch of kids with them on their VW Golfs and Jettas. Always sounded loud and tinny. I'l take my answer on the air please.
The guy that sold me my Rineharts was going with 'trapps..
He swapped stuff out like I change socks, but that was one exhaust setup he really wanted to try.
Don't know the outcome though.
They've been around a looooong time though.
I have a older set of supertraps. The guy that had the bike before me kinda layed it down in the driveway of my brother-in-laws house (don't ask)
Any how when he took it to the Harley fix it shop (dealer) they put all new sheet metal and replace the supertraps with Harley pipes. I put them on once right after I bought the bike and the sound didn't appeal to my ears. Really never rode it with them on so I can't really say anything about the torque. They were very mellow sounding (quiet).
Maybe I'll get a wild hair and put them back on. But I'd rather ride than mechanic so I probably never do it....so they just sit in my garage and gather dust... what was the subject, Oh yea! Supertraps. Like I said I don't really know what kind they are>>>but I would like to know, I've visited the supertrap site but now they have all these new ones where you take the rings in and out to change the sound which probably change some torque.
Update on Super trapp internal disc slip ons...
I just finished helping a friend install these on his stock Road KIng. He and I rode the bike before and after. He always called it a dog. After the install he came back with a bigggg grin. When I rode it I too came back with a big grin. I can't believe free flowing mufflers could make such a big difference. The sound at idle is soft, round and mellow. Twist the throttle and it gets loud, ummm too loud for the neighborhood. I could here the bike a block away. When he purchased these he was told they had 12 discs inside. I understand more discs equals more noise. I just can't believe how much better the power is on the bike. Mufflers make that much of a difference? It revs like it should.
Somebody wake me up from this dream.
So the question is...can I quiet these down some and still get the power? Inquiring minds wish to know.
DC,
Do your Super Trapps have any blueing or discoloration? I went on a very long ride with a group on Saturday. This gave me a chance to hear about 7 different muffler systems. The roundest and in my opinion best sounding of the lot was the Super Trapps. This will be my choice (finally) if there are minimal issues with discoloration.
