As a new happy owner of a new Sportster 883 2012, I got the shock of my life when I was reading that the Modern EVO engines "start giving trouble at 30,000 miles and by 40,000 miles you will need to rebuild the top end, bore the cylinders and install new pistons and rings and gaskets. As long as you have your tools out, you might as well replace all the primary case seals because if they are not leaking now, they will be soon."
I must say that I live in Latin America and my Spainish ain't so good. When I ordered the bike I emphesised that I need the Owner's Manual in English but....So now I am Supposedly awaiting my English version of the Owner's Manual. Sooo...I cannot check this out on the manual.
Is the Author of such a quote right? Maybe I am wrong but I was under the impression that Harleys were built to last.

Give us a link to the source of that quote. It is pointless quoting someone out of context, then asking us to comment on it. What you quote sounds like complete nonsense and I doubt if you will find any support for it on HDF.
I agree with others someone is feeding you BS. Only time I would do anything is when it needs it and not before unless you want to do some up grades. If it is maintained properly and well it should go MANY miles.
