Does any one know why the wrist pin clip tool Drag sells that looks just like the Harley tool says not recommend for forged pistons? I cannot find the manufactures web site to ask them. I would think it would be OK to use on any piston with the dimple. I have some forged pistons to install and would like to know why it says not recommend for forged pistons.
Thanks
Jeff
I know and I have done it with out it. But it sure makes things easier and got a very good deal on it. All I would like to know is why they say in the Drag book not recommend for forged pistons.
Thanks
Jeff
Copper coupling trick works good but I just use my fingers and a customized screwdriver.
Yes I have done them in the past by hand but the tool works much better. I all ready have the tool which I got a really good deal on it and makes things so much easier. I am not only a gear head but a tool head as I do so much motor work. What I would like to know is why Drag has not recommend for forged pistons. If the piston has the recess in it I do not see why it would not work on forged pistons.
Thanks
Jeff
if it fits I would just use it. what harm could it do, its just a tool fitting a small clip. let us know how you get on. that's one tool I wouldn't mind getting one day, I just used a small screwdriver but nothing like having the proper gear
I agree I do not see why it would not work. I have as much or more in my special HD tools as I do my 02 Ultra I bought new and my HD sidecar. I have been collecting for for 42 years. LOL
Thanks
Jeff
I think the hole in the wrist pin is a different size when it comes to forged or cast? or the outer diameter of the pin is different.
I use MY clip tool whenever needed. I have found that sometimes, with the forged, the tool will NOT pull the circlips off, but have always had good luck installing any circlip onto the piston using the tool.
I also thought this 'don't use' crap was really based upon 06 back and 07 up and not forged-vs-cast.
