I'm in the process of installing quiet baffels in a set of V.H. Big Shot Long Exhaust. Has anyone done this installation? Does the complete exhaust system have to be removed? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Depends on the version of the bs longs.
At some point, they decided they didn't want you changing baffles easy, so they got rid of the screw hole in the heat shields.
I tried to get the shields off without removing the pipes, but in the end it was a whole lot easier to remove the pipes to take the shields off.
If you have the hole, then its 4 screws. 1 in each endcap and 1 in each baffle.
Thanks for your help: I haven't had time to work on it yet, however there is a screw in each pipe that appears to be holding the cap on. So I guess what you are saying there is another screw holding the baffle in that you cannot get to because the heat shield is in the way.
That's what I'm saying. It's under the heatshield.
You will see it when you pull the endcap.
Also, use a coathanger or some other hook to pull the baffle out one you remove the screw.
Oh, leave the tape on... it will burn off, and twist the baffle as you push it in, it should go in smoothly then you rotate it with pliers or some device of your choosing to line the holes up. I used a nail for final alignment.
keep us posted on the installation of the quiet baffles and how you like them afterward. i am thinking of getting a set, but will wait until you're done.
oh, and if you don't like them, i'd be interested in buying them off you
I put my V&H BSS on a little over a year ago. WhenI started it up, it was too loud for me. I ordered the quiet baffles right away. I only had a few hundred miles on the pipes when I installed the quiet baffles. I did not have to remove the pipes or the heat shields. I was able to take the end caps off and the baffles out and install the new quiet baffles in less than 30 minutes and I am no wrench. I very much like the sound of the BSS with the quiet baffles. Just the right harley sound for me. I also very much recommend a dyno tune after the installation of the pipes. I paid $200 for the tune and I know my AF ratio is good and got more hp and torque than the canned power commander map. I have the PCIII. Stock engine is makeing 77 HP and 83 ft/lb torque. Runs really well and no loud popping on deacceleration. Just a gurgleing sound.

Hey, I also have the big shots long exhaust and would like to change my baffles. If anyone figures out a easy way to get to the screw that holds the baffles in under the heat shield please let me know how they did it. Has anyone tried drilling a hole in the heat shield where the bolt is located so they could get to this screw?
You can drill the shields but... the chrome might peel over time.
It only takes a little time to take the pipes off, maybe 10 mins, and the shields maybe another 5?
If you drill em, make sure to coat the edges with some clear nail polish.
Only gotta do it once.
I am very happy with mine and they made a big difference in sound and percieved noise.
