I have a 94 FLTCU with 35,200 miles on it. The bike is basically stock. It has a CV carb on it. I recently replaced the main diaphragm, the smaller accelerator pump diaphragm and the blower hoses. I replaced the items b/c they all were leaking. Before I changed them I was getting around 33 to 36 MPG. Since those items were leaking, I thought once I replaced them that I would get better gas mileage. But since the change, I have been getting only 30 MPG. The leaking has stopped, but the gas mileage has gone down.
What else can I look at? Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can try or why I might not be getting better gas mileage?
you need to take the bike to someone that can tune it for you. the stock cv is a great carb and will get much better mileage than you are getting. I have some customers getting in the high 48 mpg and couple over 50 mpg. most of the mileage is controlled by the idle air circuit. turn that screw in 1/8th of a turn and ride the bike. adjust as needed. dsv
When we build mild 80" Evo combos, a lot of times we see mid-upper 40's, and have clients that often see north of 50 mpg, on the open road.
Great volumetric efficiency are the key words that are the cornerstone of an engine that can see great mpg.........unless it is just plain too lean.
