tc88b startup clunk

hello, ive got a new to me 2000 fatboy when i restart after a few hrs of sitting id does the startup clunk sound. Bike has 14,000 miles and a screaming eagle ign module. thats about all i know about the motor. Any ideas on why it clunks on start up?

I'd start by checking the primary chain for proper running play, and also the check the compensating sprocket nut, insuring that it is tightened correctly, all per service manual specs.

Adding to Scott's post. The comp nut backing off is a common issue with the early models. If you should find that the comp nut has backed off, remove the nut and have about .030" milled from the end of the nut before re-installing.
