Default 131" Starter problem HELP!

Recently I was riding around and then when I came to start my scoot, my starter gave out. Fortunately I was on a looooong hill and after decompressing the motor and trying to get the rear to hook and turn the motor over without letting out in 3rd. I got the machine started and rode straight into my shop.
I took the primary cover off , the starter... I noticed that the midgear between the starter pinion and the motor had sheared a couple of teeth which was causing it to not catch.
Upon further inspection, I also notice a couple of half broken teeth on my OEM 102 tooth starter gear.
I went out and bought a 66 tooth Rivera starter gear kit, rebuild my All ***** starter with new parts and re-installed everything in its place.
Went riding... starter making a loud noise. Took it apart and the mid gear had sheared a couple again.
I inspected the starter motor teeth, replaced, all new internal, went for a ride and again, for the third time I broke something. Starter spins freely now.
I have not had the time to open it again, my question is putting the 66t starter ring, is that causing too much load on the starter?
What combination is used typically on these motors, what recommendations can you give.

Thanks

Joe

If the starter is making a "whirring noise" and not engaging, then chances are good that the starter clutch has taken a dump.
On those larger engines, when starting issues surface we reach for a Tech Cycle starter.
Seems to put the problems to rest.

This is a 1995 compensator that I have machined 1/8 off the inside as I have been doing on all my big inch scoots after my discussion with Randy (not sure if this is you).

I have to say that it sounds like the starter clutch has given out and I will check it when I take the starter out next day or two. The starter clutch is new and was replace with my last starter overhaul. I only have about 20 or 30 start ups on it. The parts that has been braking on the last two starters is the small gear between the starter motor and the starter clutch.
I have a Tech cycle starter 1.4kw I can use , I would put that starter because my battery is only 20aH Odyssey.
I am afraid that the 66 tooth starter gear is putting too much load on the starter motor motor.
Could that be the cause? What is the recommended starter gear count for the big motors you are building?

Yes it is. We find that it helps. I just returned from a week at R&R Cycles, everything I saw there was a big inch engine. The like Weldon starter clutches.
