starter jumping out

starter jumping out
79 shovel and the starter jumps out, not making any noise. this starter is wired direct. starte rdrive or solonoid? any ideas.

Not sure waht you mean by "jumping out". However have you checked to make sure you have the washer/spacer that goes on the end of the starter drive?

when you engage the starter, it spins the motor and then jumps out and continues to spin. bikes been together for 25 years.

When was the last time the Bendix gear was replaced. Think that might be the source of your problem
