we`ve ran big cams in XL motors & 4 cam drag bikes.just make sure you've got compression to support them and the CFM to make the extra lift worth while(& DOUBLE check all clearances).what are you building? more hot street or a drag motor?
Anyone running big sporty cams such as Redshift 643 or 729, Woods w68s or w9bs, andrews 87, tman 662?
Just wanting to know what your set up is and what else your running with these cams.
Can a hot 1200 take advantage of some of these big cams at high rpm?
We've used the 9B's in 88" XL's before.
Gotta' have a good head going and they'll really roll.
Had some friends of ours that we lent one of our dual-carb set-up's to for their 107" XL AHDRA Mod bike that used those big RS units.
8.61 @ 152.42 MPH.............at the 1/4 mile dyno.

Grbrown. I drag race a street bike class on a basicly stock steet sporty. Im looking for a 10.99 pass, just one time. Thinking maybe a set of monster cams might help me get there. I dont care if the bike has reversion or falls on its face down low. 1.98 intake valves on 1250 cc is what I have. Im on pump gas compression now but would bump it up if need be....depending on what the cam requires as stated above. Im snowballing ideas and thoughts. Wanting a touch more top end power

Possibly just expanding on what I have, hot street. It took me awhile to sand piston pockets/eyebrows down to make the valves clear. Not much room on that size of bore. So yes, clearancing will be tight im assuming.
I rode a '96 Sportster with 88" kit, heads, Super G, T-header & Andrews N6 cams. Dyno'd 97hp/102 ft lbs. Dunno what kinda times it ran, tho. Builder said with the stock chassis it was hard to hook up and keep the front end down. 1st 2 owners of that bike sold it after they looped it.

Ouch.....thats never good. Im on stock w.b too. I ran thunderheader for year's, but have found a few other pipes that pull a lot longer on the big end. My tq peaks at 6200 and the bike will pull to 7500, but bottom end is stock so I attempt to keep it 7200 rannge until I cross the trapps closer to 74 7500.

Ah, I see! Look forward to hearing how you get on! NRHS and Hammer are experts on tuning Sportys and probably know what will do just that, certainly worth looking at their websites.
as long as the compression is matched to the cams, you should do fine.we used redshift 643`s in a,street ridden 1200XL (with MAJOR headwork)about 10 years ago that ran 9.6`s`s.ive got a racer friend down here that I did a fairly mild set of heads on his 1200 and he just went 10.7 about a week ago
