Left case bearing retaining ring?

Left case bearing retaining ring?
Engine is a 97 Evo out of an electra glide.
The left case bearing retaining ring is loose.
Does anyone know of a fix for the left case where the bearing retaining ring goes?
I purchased the bike with the engine in pieces and I am just starting to work on it. upon removal of both outer races I discovered the retaining ring was loose.
the previous owner stated that it had been rebuilt due to a crank bearing problem and then within a thousand miles or so he trouble again - this time the crankpin nut came loose and it started rubbing inside the cases. it washed out the tapers in the crank and scraped the cases some, but he shut it down and got it trailered. It all looked superficial, so I got a used crank and other stuff to repair it, now I find this.......
