Default flathead transmission

Hello. I'm restoring a 50th anniversary, 1954 G servi-car & I'm unable to find the transmission drain plug. Does anyone know if there is a drain plug ? The service manualI ordered should be here any day now. (hopefully) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

yes, it should be closer to the kicker cover side of the trans, underneath there will be two bolts, ones a drain and the other is a trans to frame bolt or nut. there is more than that but you want the 2nd closest to the kicker cover. hope this helps.

Are you sure? My 45 has no drain plug. You have to suck the old oil out with a siphon. Crazy I know but thats the way they made them. I think one military manual tells you to tip the bike on its side!

It's only on with 3 bolts and the shifter. I guess they figured it would give you reason to take a close look at the chain if they made you take the gearbox off to tip it up and drain it.

No drain plug on your transmission case. The H-D 45, in it's most common configuration (3-bolt tranny), from late 30's until it's final production year of '73, no means was provided to drain the transmission. I did see one setup where the outside-most mounting stud was drilled and capped. Think this one used a suction pump on the stud, and flushing oil poured in through the fill spout. Stud is not big enough for a very large hole. Anyway, you will have to be creative with your ServiCar. At least the solo models could be rolled over on the side and drained through the fill spout.

remove one mounting stud and replace with a bolt of appropriate size and length, bingo quick draining oil plug. George
