Default WLA engine - keep it OD, or not?

So, I have a WLA case with decent OD paint, but a civilian frame.
No military accessories to speak of.
Should I keelp the OD paint, or strip it and go with a bare case and a pink frame? (Just kidding on the pink)
What a dilemma!

Being a veteran, I hate to remove the OD.
I can't build anything close to a correct WLA without going deep into debt.
I was thinking about a sort of a Rat tribute WLA - OD engine, fenders and tank with a black frame.
No ammo case, blackout stuff, etc.
No show entries, just cruising and an occasional Daytona Bike Week.

I would feel guilty removing the OD green if I knew it was original. I had a really nice original paint oil tank years ago, I sold it to a guy doing a WLA and wanted the paint. I used the cash to help buy a good set of civilian tanks. No harm, no foul.

All of that said, the green will look silly on a Civilian bike, soooooooooooooo

I am no help, best case scenario I would trade with someone with cases in similar condition that had a WL and not WLA serial number. But that is pie in the sky, how are your going to find that guy.

All of that said, I have scored OEM parts like the Cycle Ray headlight bezel that came in OD green, I removed it more my purpose.

I have confused myself typing this, not sure what you should do, listen to John.

That is a good plan, as a veteran. having never served, I would feel wrong doing that to my bike, but your Sir can do it and enjoy it.

I don't think mine will ever approach that level
I'm dealing with parts that were obviously left in the weather for a long time.
I'll be lucky to get it running!

Hey, hey I can beat a kid on a moped!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????!!!!!!!!!!

Crusty, rusty and very well used, here is your inspirational photo of the morning. This started life as a basement find that had a heavy handed, half-hearted, heavily China influenced work done to it in the late 90's, then never finished or ridden. All the Chinese crap is gone, I will call her 90% Milwaukee steel. You can do it, just takes time and a ton of patience:
