Yeah, maybe I should have started with something a little bigger and newer, but I will get it running.

He is just giving you a hard time, they go just fine when tuned properly. What they don't do is stop quickly, it will be a learning curve when you get there. Had mine out yesterday, keeps up with modern traffic just fine, just don't try and race a kid on a Ninja.
Speaking of inadequate brakes...
This is what I found when i opened up the front wheel on my basket case.
I'm not a mechanical genius, but some people should be barred from working on moving vehicles.
<snip> I am no help, best case scenario I would trade with someone with cases in similar condition that had a WL and not WLA serial number. But that is pie in the sky, how are your going to find that guy. <snip>.
I subscribe to Military Vehicles Magazine, mostly because I just love looking at vintage OD iron in all variants. Those guys are willing to pay good money for anything vintage that's still OD. You might look into advertising with them, or at least looking up some of the major vendors and see what it will bring as is. Like others, I would hate to see you repaint it; it's only original once. http://subscriptions.militaryvehiclesmagazine.com/
I feel the same way. It is only original once.
I have two WLA cases.
One doesn't have a serial number, so the only evidence is remnants of OD paint.
The second one has a WLA serial number and nice satin sheen OD paint. I believe they switched from the flat OD to the satin, or semi gloss sheen late in the WLA run?
Unfortunately, the frame is probably not WLA and is just in primer with surface rust.
So, which way do I go? No way can I justify adding WLA paint and accessories to the frame, as it will never be a true WLA bike.
If I stripped the OD off of the case and built a 'civilian' bike, I feel like I would be dishonoring the case's WLA heritage.
I think I will build sort of a WLA/WR bike. OD fender(s), engine and tank. Black satin frame. Suicide clutch pedal and maybe belt drive primary.
Nothing cast in concrete yet.
