I'm thinking pretty much any oil available today is better than what was available 75 years ago, when my bike was made.
I also think synthetics are only required in an engine exposed to extremely high temperatures - like with a turbocharger, to prevent coking.
But, considering the time and money I have invested in this thing, I'll cave and get Valvoline VR1 at about $7 a quart.
