Autozone and Advanced usually have Valvoline VR1 in stock. Around here you have to ask for it as it is not out on the shelves with the 5-30wt but they usually have it.

Amazon sells a case of 6 VR-1 in 50 and 60 weight for under $30, you just have to wait for the price to come down. I use camelcamelcamel.com to get price alerts.
I use 60 WT year round, my bikes are parked in my basement so it is tempered, does not go below 55. If I do go for a ride in the winter she gets started from that temperature and given time to warm up. Not likely to be parked outside for an extended amount of time.
That said, yes hard to find oil sometimes, I use Penn Grade (used to be called Brad Penn Oil) and I buy it online and it gets delivered to the house. Running it in the Shovel as well, so I just get it by the case. Amazon gives me the best deal, but it usually arrives in a JEGS box.
Maybe easier to order from JEGS direct, but free shipping thru Amazon, shop around. I also like that it is green, easy to tell which end of the bike is leaking.
