Hey,
so the oil psi light on my 45 came on and wouldn’t go out.
so I checked the dash lamp ( good ) replaced oil psi switch with new ( good ) rebuilt oil pump ( good) BUT the light stays on!! WTF
Anyone have a solution?
If the oil sender is like newer ones, it provides the ground for the light. If so, maybe the sender wire is pinched somewhere and grounded? Also check the light isn't grounded
I have given up on oil pressure switches on my Flathead. Either they never come on or they never turn off. I have landed on the former. Easy enough to open the oil tank since it is right in front of you to see if you are getting flow, good luck.
Ok if anyone is interested this is I found to fix my
problem.
So after checking to make sure there is full flow of oil, checked psi switch , checked all connections from lamp to switch and wiring all was found to be good.
Than I checked all the electrical connections and all appeared to be good !!!until I hooked the battery back up and smoke started coming out of the dash and cooked a few wires.
After a few wtf and 2-3 cold beers, I found that post under the dash cover that holds many connecting wires came loose and was shorting to dash frame to motorcycle frame!
And Bam that was it!! installed new wire and off we go!
Just goes to show you that some of the biggest problems just need a small fix.
Thanks all for many great ideas in searching for a fix.
