Default 3 speed transmission

Hey all,
so I picked up a pile of 45 3 speed transmission cases, all are of the 3 bolt down model.
A few of them have E with a circle located under the oil filler neck.
Question : is are all 3 bolt 3 speed trans case the same or is there something different about them?

Pretty sure 3 bolt cases are all the same. For sure the ServiCar cases are the same as a WL, they just got the reverse gear in them. I would suspect the E is for later model Servi with electric start. The lids are different on them, but I think the never changed the cases. I would give a look at the Palmer book to be sure.

The circle E hallmark indicates casting by Eck Industries. On a Servi-Car trans case the earliest I’ve seen it is from July 58 (date code 7 58 inside) and therefore the presence of a circle E doesn’t necessarily mean a case was originally for an electric-start model. The latest I’ve seen the circle E on a Servi-Car trans case is from Jan 67 with date code 1-67 inside.

At some later stage the hallmark on these trans cases changed to UF but I don’t know exactly when and the earliest date-coded example I have photos of is from Sept 23, 1969 with 9-23-69 underneath.
