Ok, Im new to this. Can someone point me in the right direction for a battery for this here bike.
Appreciate the help...gonna need it
I bought it from someone who never tried to start it. He had bought it from someone mid restoration without knowing how much had been touched in the engine. He thought maybe it could start but didnt want to try without breaking the engine down to see the state of its insides. What do you think? Should i throw some gas in it and give it a try or break it down?
Other than that the bike is almost 100% complete and turns over easily.
I don't think i'd break it down right away, i'd make sure it has fresh oil and give it a try. If I were you i'd clean out the carb first, but if it turns over ok by hand, give it a shot. As far as the battery is concerned, ?????

Thanks for your reply. Appreciate your help.
In the meantime can i use any old 6V battery? Its all the same eh?
You can use almost any 6v battery,as long as it's not too old,has to keep the charge, more than 6v between the posts, otherwise you'll have problems to start the bike. I sometimes connected small motorcycle charger to the battery, while starting bike
J&P Carries the proper size battery, Retail about 90.00. You maybe able to get your local independent shop to order you one from a different supplier for a lot less. Switching to 12 volt will not change anything as far as starting. Harley switched to 12 volt when they went to electric start. If you have a good 6 volt generator and regulator just keep it 6 volt. If your generator and regulator are bad than it is a matter of whether you want to keep the bike original or not.
Except if you ride only during night time, better to keep the 6volt system, at least you are sure that you can keep safe your overall electrical system.. I keep 6 volt on mine WLA and never got any trouble to start.. and any trouble at all..
