Hi All
I'm fairly new to Harley's, I've just bought a 1942 WLA 45CI. It's been civilianised by the last owner(s) and the more I look at it, the more I'm finding that's not original for the bike. Not really an issue, as I prefer a bit of custom to concourse.
Anyway, to my question.
Mine has a Linkert M344 carby, which I believe is actually an Indian carby. Mine is meant to have the M88. It seems to run ok, but I'd like to know if the M344 and M88 are the same size, and if there is any reason I should swap it over to the correct carb for the WLA?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Mike
The stock m88 has a 15/16" vented venturi and the stock m344 has 1 1/16" or 1 1/8" venturi. Military m88's have fixed high speed jet. Actual civilian wl's had m51 carb with larger 1 1/8" non vented venturi. Of course any of these could have had venturi changed over years. It should run better than stock m88 with m344 or a m 51 with the larter 1 1/8" venturi. The m344 is worth more money than the other two carbs.
