Default WL idler shaft

I'm rebuilding a 48 WL. The generator idler shaft is worn and I have a replacement. Can't figure out how to remove the old shaft from engine case. I've removed the center screw but it's still pretty tight. Any ideas? Thanks.

we use a snap on tool - its a pin puller, it has a coller that tightens on the pin and a slide hammer to pop it out - we see them come in the shop after using vise grips or what ever and the boss is cracked NOW its a costly fix

borrow the tool from some one or have a real shop remove it for you It does go in much easyer -- johnjzjz

Thanks johnjzjz, I wasn't sure if the shaft was a press fit or threaded. When I measured the OD of the shaft and the ID of the gear I get .0025 difference. Now I'm wondering if I should replace it or just let it go.

its a feel for thing - if it feels loose than go for it if it feels snug than i would leave it alone - but it has only one bushing and its easy to swap out , we use bushings from eastern USA made, the china stuff is all over the place in sizing from v twin / the post has a screw in the center that has to be removed first
