John, some time ago on another forum a guy mentioned a GL but his source regarding that model designator was questionable to say the least and I haven’t found any info on such a machine. I’d never heard of one prior to that occasion and I have no record of H-D ever making a GL.

Can you please explain what constitutes a GL and do you know how long H-D made that model? Also, so I can add it to my photo collection could you please post a partial picture of the serial number—for example, 55GL1+++ or similar would be great. Thanks.

Hey speeding. I apologize. You are right. It's a servicar engine in the 45 solo frame. I'm not the best at all the little quirks of harley history. But I have a passion for it And have been waiting for the opportunity to purchase a piece of that history. Just didn't want to get taken. Thanks for your input

Thanks for the reply and no need to apologise. Sometimes I like to check on a particular designator to see if there was such a model. For example, a while back on another forum there was mention of a 51WLJ but I didn't know if it was real as I'd never heard of it before. But it did indeed turn out to be an authentic Harley.

The main thing to check on a servicar engine is to make sure the original small-bore intake manifold is not still on it. Restricts top end all to hell. Easy enough to machine or grind out, or just put a WLA etc manifold on there.

You might want to look at what heads it has on it too.
The best ones are the aluminum WLA heads, machined down 7/64" to bump the compression up to 6:1.

Then get the Victory Library books on the other things you can do to make them a bit more peppy. Bit of porting and "relieving" makes a big difference.

900 stroker wheels and KHK race cams anybody?
