Not sure why you posted this in this forum since it's not Harley Davidson related.
Perhaps you can try the "forum issues" forum.
However to answer your question; if someone hits the "thanks" icon apparently you get a thanks recorded.
I guess some people get a jolly for getting a pat on the back.
Personally I don't see the point of the feature.
