Kinetic Structures Engine Mounts...
So, I started with the front and then moved to the rear. Like an idiot I can be at times I never read the instructions. it clearly stated in the directions that it was necessary to install the rear first, but I figured how could that really matter. Well, it does when it comes to shimming the front. So, moving on after not reading the directions, I got them in and then moved on to aligning the Engine and rear fork with the adjustable stabilizer link to the front rotor. After getting the frame to +.15 degrees. I then checked the front rotor and that came in at 89.65 degrees and when I put the inclinometer on the rear rotor, I couldn't believe that it actually matched front @89.65 exactly. I didn't think I could get it any better, so I left it at that.
Next up was the road test. I went down the block a couple hundred feet and couldn't believe the amount of vibration. It was easily twice the vibration of my solid mount Evo.
So, I called Kinetic Structures and spoke with them about the hard vibes. First thing they asked was what was the process of my installation. I told them I installed the front first and he stopped me right there and stated that the rear needed to be done first to establish the proper forward position of the engine in the frame. He continued to tell me that the OEM rubber mounts over time will allow the motor to shift back in the frame which explained why I had difficulty with the rear. I had to pry the whole Engine and trans forward to get the rear in. He also said not to worry, just loosen up both front and rear upper bolts on the mounts and to start the motor and let it settle in and then shim the front and retighten the bolts and that should alleviate the hard vibes. So, I did but it made no difference. They also stated that I could remove 1 shim and try that. I did with no difference. So, I took out the second shim, still no difference. I then put the 2 shims back in and added 2 washers as suggested by them. They said sometimes it needs more than the 2 supplied shims. Still no difference. So, at that point I took out the front Kinetic mount and reinstalled my OEM which wasn't in all that bad of condition and Wala No more vibrations.
At that point with the Kinetic in the rear and the OEM in the front, I went out for a ride to see how it handled. I must say that there was a noticeable difference. The bike felt better planted/firm in the twisties at 70 mph. It was a joy. I do believe my rear was no good because I always had a vibration fron1900-2200 rpm that is now gone. I can see out my mirrors better. I am impressed with the rear mount. The front not so much.
I curious to hear what others that have tried these mounts have to say about them.
Thanks Max...
