Question Frame ID difficulty

I have a soft tail frame that came with a mash up of parts I got recently. The frame would appear to possibly be a 1977 mfged in March (C 7) on upper engine mount that looks like a 70's & later mount (no dip cut out) and the latest of the HD casting numbers indicates ...73. I would suspect from what I've read that there should be a VIN number on the neck but there is none and it doesn't appear to be ground off or tampered with. There is a "I" embossed on one side of the neck though.

Any other clues for me to look at? I've found a couple web sites with frame info for different era's and it seems there should be a VIN number for this frame.

I have pictures and will figure out how to use them with the forum just let me know what would be helpful. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Mark

Is your frame painted, or in bare metal? If painted it could be hiding numbers under the paint. Pictures would help, so our experts can see the lugs etc that might help identify it. If it is definitely a shovel frame, try posting in the Shovel forum, where you should get more hits.
